8:00 - Team #23 Racing Engine Design/Chevy LS
Racing Engine Design brought a beautifully detailed 370-inch LS-series Chevrolet. The engine build was based on an OEM iron truck block, with a production crank and LS-7 cylinder heads. A notable feature is the wild-looking single four-barrel induction, utilizing a high-rise Performance Induction intake manifold. It was clear from the calm and collected manner of the team members during the warm-up and tuning period that these guys came prepared. The engine seemed to effortlessly complete the qualifying portion of the competition, posting a score of 2422.8 and grabbing the current third-place position.

9:00 - Team #22 Dove Performance/Ford
We had a real treat on our hand in terms of exotic hardware with the Dove Performance entry. The team came to the show with a SOHC Ford big block; the legendary "cammer". With large free-flowing heads, and a unique overhead cam arrangement, the SOHC featured a layout that was unique for a domestic V-8. The Dove engine was noticeably down on power in comparison to what the team had seen in testing. It seemed as though the engine may have hydraulic-locked from fuel, damaging the big Ford before it had a chance to perform. The SOHC finished qualifying with a score of 2,160.6

10:00 - Team #21 MPG Heads/Ford
MPG has to be the most experienced team at the event, having competed in every single Engine Masters Challenge since the inaugural Challenge in 2002. Always serious contenders, this year's CHI-headed Ford was one to watch. The engine featured a single four barrel, rather than the multiple carbs seen on many of competition engines. Without a doubt, Bob and Scott from MPG brought a stout unit, with a strong and broad power curve. The engine finished qualifying with a score 2,504.3, putting this entry in the lead position.

11:00 - Team #20 TPIS & Scott Parkhurst, Inc./Chevy
TPIS came to the show with a hot-looking injected LS-series engine, based upon a GM LSX iron block, AFR cylinder heads, and an Edelbrock intake topped with TPIS's own throttle body. This engine was the EFI-equipped powerplant ever to run at Engine Masters. The crew methodically performed the required tuning for the local conditions at our test facility, and the engine ran without missing a beat. A strong and trouble-free showing resulted in a score of 2,411.8.
