If drag racing is like wine and cheese, then bracket racing is beer and pretzels. It's racing for your average Joe who doesn't have the long green for a full race team or the patience for the rules that the big racers have to deal with. It's a run-what-ya-brung deal, where you show up with a car and make your best guess at e.t. Cut a good light, beat the other guy to the end of the track, and you win. Just don't go faster than your dial-in.
Super Chevy has been running bracket races for years, and given the ever-growing increase in attendance, people really dig it. Recently, they've even added the True Street format to the events. This is where sportsman racing meets street car, and weeds out the trailer queens to find the best that do both. You never know what's going to line up. It could be a big-block '67 Camaro in one lane, and a GMC truck with paper plates in the other. If it's powered by the General, and can pass tech inspection, then it's eligible to run down the 1320. When added to the normal bracket classes, it truly makes the series a "something for everyone" affair.
Throughout '07, the Super Chevy shows have been crisscrossing the country, and PHR has been there to cover a number of them. With the season over, it's time to pick our top 10 racers and give them the recognition they deserve for running fast, playing hard, and looking good while doing it. By the time they read this, we're sure many of them will be spinning wrenches and dialing in their cars for the '08 season.
